Few Christians ever read the 'very' earliest writings of the founders of the 'religion' of Christianity. The leaders of early Christianity were men and women of few 'written' words, and the Catholic church has destroyed and/or hidden those 'few' words since its organization. The Protestants continue the coverups and prefer their ranks to remain loyal and passionate with ignorance, like its mother, the Catholic Church.
The Icelandic Eddas are the only vernacular record of Germanic heathendom as it developed during the four centuries which in England saw the destruction of nearly all traces of the heathen system. Ignatius is generally considered to be one of the Apostolic Fathers (the earliest authoritative group of the Church Fathers) and a saint by both the Roman Catholics, who celebrate his feast day on October 17, and the Orthodox and Eastern Catholic churches, who celebrate his feast day on December 20. Ignatius based his authority on living his life in imitation of Christ.
Before one can begin to explore the Bible vs. Myth, one must define what a myth is, for the purpose of the study. I've seen definitions used that say mythology is fiction, fables, lore, allegory, etc., but the fact we use the coinage, "mythology" tends to make it somewhat different than ordinary fiction and fables. TODAY the medley of outward life has made a perplexity of inward life. We moderns have ruffled our old incertitudes to an absurd point--incertitudes that are older than theology. Whence are these writings--these emotions--these profound pages of wisdom? You might as well inquire, whence is human nature? The fact is--they are. It isn't as though you can compare this literature with any other, as you might compare the French Romanticists with the Russian school.
