This Edition is a collection of both published works (1893 & 1922) on the Rosetta Stone by E. A. Wallis Budge. Most of this book is in large print with a 14 point font. It includes a translation of the hieroglyphic text of the decree of the Priests of Memphis, as found on the Rosetta Stone and on the Stele of Damanhur. The decree was promulgated in the 9th year of the reign of Ptolemy v. Epiphanes.

As early as 1820 it was known in Europe that in Middle Egypt, on the east bank of the Nile, in the district between Minieh and Siut, there lay the remains of a great city of Ancient Egypt.

We arrived at El Kab on the 1st of December, and within four days had cleared out several of the uninscribed tombs in the famous hill, and had made them into a most comfortable house. Nothing in Egypt makes so pleasant a dwelling as a rock-tomb.

CHRONOLOGY is the skeleton of history, and until we can find the correct chronological place for a historical monument it loses a large part of its value. Thanks to the lists of the so-called eponyms, by means of whom the Assyrians dated their years, the chronology of the Assyrian kings has long since been placed upon a satisfactory footing as far back as the tenth century before our era.
