There are those whose feet are firmly on The Path, who are known as 'Old Souls' and who possess inner knowledge. They are aware of Truth, they have no need of a book such as this. But for the vast majority, who may indeed be true seekers, because of the way we are educated in the so-called civilized world, analysis, proof, the opinion of others is often necessary. I believe this book provides what they need. It has been diligently researched, and even if some of the reports printed here are, at the least, inaccurate, that is not the fault of the author. She has merely reproduced what has been said and written about a personage who defies our present stage of understanding. It is for the reader to form his or her own opinion.

The hearty kindness with which my fellow-countrymen received my words has been to me both a delight and an encouragement. The expressions of sympathy which have reached me from abroad allow me to hope that these pages, notwithstanding the deficiencies and imperfections of which I am keenly sensible, reflect some few of the rays of the truth which God has deposited on the earth, thereby to unite in the same faith and hope men of every tongue and every nation.

These rules are written for all disciples: Attend you to them. Before the eyes can see, they must be incapable of tears. Before the ear can hear, it must have lost its sensitiveness. Before the voice can speak in the presence of the Masters it must have lost the power to wound. Before the soul can stand in the presence of the Masters its feet must be washed in the blood of the heart.

If man were a static or intelligible being, such as angels are thought to be, his life would have a single guiding interest, under which all other interests would be subsumed.

Man exists amid a universal ferment of being, and not only needs plasticity in his habits and pursuits but finds plasticity also in the surrounding world. Life is an equilibrium which is maintained now by accepting modification and now by imposing it.

The purpose of this book is to explore the ways and means that human beings have been persuaded to believe deceptions about who we are, what we are and where we came from. We are not the ne'er do wells we are continually told we are. Evil is not a natural human trait. We are blessed beings otherwise we would not have been chosen to be the guardians of Creation's most beautiful garden.
